Real Talk: America’s Race to Stupidity.

alandeep:

It’s 1:30am 2am and I should be sleeping but I can’t because…

America, I got beef with you.

This used  to be the country where people get shit done. Where people invented amazing stuff, thought up better ways to make life better, cared for countries less fortunate than ours, supported world-wide causes and publicized the need to help others. People strived to be great. We created top-notch universities. Ground-breaking businesses. Standardized education in public school systems. Everything was in place.

But then, something changed.

Some people no longer worked hard to achieve greatness, studied late nights to expand their knowledge. Some even stopped reading books. These people realized something.

If life is too hard and you aren’t “fit” for sacrificing time to become something great, just do something extremely stupid. Just keep doing stupid things. Be obnoxious. Make tons of mistakes. And then maybe, maybe you will get noticed AND YOU CAN:

BE ON TELEVISION. Because once you’re on television, you’ve made it. You, the average (usually below-average) American, have made it big time. On the Big Screen. Millions of viewers watching you do something so dumb that you went viral and your audience just can’t get enough.  Forget being intelligent, well-rounded, selfless, and striving to make a positive mark on history. This IS your mark on history. Hurry up and jump off a roof into a basketball hoop and “accidentally” hit your nuts. That’ll make our nation great for centuries to come.

Every time you turn on the television, you get bombarded with shows like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, Pregnant and _____ (tonight’s episode was “and addicted to crystal meth”), The Kardashians, etc etc etc. I mean, when you see how much money people are making on these shows, who WOULDN’T want to join in on the action, right? It’s the easy way out and you get paid. So much emphasis on the latest gossip. We have grown to find entertainment in other people’s misfortunes, sorrows, mistakes, and lack of common sense so much that some people are now STRIVING to attain these attributes.

Can you blame them though? People follow what they believe is socially acceptable. It’s not like there are tons of shows that spotlight average Americans who do amazing things in the community, or kids who work on philanthropic projects. Or concentrate on people who are trying to make a positive change in our country. I’m sure there are some, like Oprah or a 2 minute segment in your local news broadcast, but not nearly enough 10 season long series shows that are devoted to people who actually deserve media attention.

All in all, national media lacks positive inspiration to make our youth go out and be something great.

Fuck all this SOPA talk. We need a viral spread of intellect ASAP, or else before we even realize, there will be less doctors and CEOs and more “in-between jobs” 40 year-olds who still live with their parents and stay up all night watching cats do cute things.
