As most of you know, the Philippines was hit by possibly the biggest natural disaster ever recorded— Typhoon Haiyan. The death toll has recently hit 4,000+, and it has affected more than 13 million people. 3 million of them have been displaced, and the affected areas have nurses being taken advantage of, people getting robbed, dead bodies rotting due to body bag shortages, stores getting looted, and people becoming chaotic because of the situation. What they show on the U.S. news doesn’t even compare to what is being shown and what is happening in the Philippines. And it’s not just Tacloban, it’s other islands that have been completely submerged underwater, with children walking around with no food, and no way of getting any footage because of the lack of space to land aircrafts there.
This disaster has brought so many people together to raise funds for direct relief. It seems as if the entire world is praying for the Philippines. It makes me hopeful and happy that humanity is coming together to help those affected. With that said, I want to let you guys know that I have been part of many efforts to get money to the Philippines, and will NOT be booking any benefit shows for the next 2 months that do not involve helping the Philippines. I do not mean this in a negative way towards other charities, I just wish to focus my efforts on helping out those affected in a timely manner.
The Fall Ball I just threw with my team raised money (though not as much as we wanted to due to expenses) for relief. And just to be completely transparent, ticket sales went straight to expenses with any leftover money going to our fund for relief— while any money that was donated during the dance was directly put in the fund.
I recently did a telethon at KTLA5 with Billy Ray Cyrus, Mark Decascos, the Basco Bros and more for the Red Cross Philippines that raised over $167,000+ which inspired me to do my own live stream event that anyone can be a part of.
So I will be doing a 12-hour live stream event from my YouTube channel, from my house, in hopes to raise money through an organization called Rally.org and will keep you updated details ASAP! Also, with the plethora of benefit event emails regarding raising money for Typhoon relief— I will be slow to answer those emails and to be completely honest, with what’s going on with my family as well and being busy with Christmas season in the Music Ministry at church, I will be taking very few of those. Especially due to the fact that I am starting my own fundraising campaign with Rally.org. But PLEASE send me any information on events that benefit that Typhoon, I will gladly give a Tweet or Facebook post helping to promote, and even help you get in contact with other artists to the best of my ability— especially knowing all you leaders out there are as passionate as me in putting events together to get help to the Philippines.
